self-publishing

This is a good thread about doing self-publishing. There are various versions of it - order 100 first, then sell. Do print on demand. Make available online (perhaps via amazon).

Wedding and social event photography Forum: Effect used by many wedding photographers- how to do this?

How to get a soft, radiant look digitally, without a soft focus filter. Good, straight-forward thread.

The 2nd post, on Lightroom, is intriguing. Working with RAW files on my dual core is very fast, though the missing folders option is kind of annoying. I just haven't had to go through _that_ many images yet so I haven't really taxed the application yet.

The short answer is yes. The short answer is no. My reasoning is - huh, I have no idea how to work with rear filters with lenses, since I don' thave any that require them.

This is all the more interesting because of the comments on the fluctuations in metering results from aperture priority mode. For me, I use manual because it lets me keep my shutter speed in a reasonable "drag" range (usually 1/60) while adjusting aperture for my needs, including making sure that I'm making the most of the sensor in high contrast (dark suit, white dress) situations.

Nikon Forum: NX rocks, OK, now what?

Nikon Forum: NX rocks, OK, now what?

workflow questions like this make me want to use Lightroom and/or Aperture more and more. HOWEVER...Adobe's raw converter isn't the best out there. But the workflow...hm.

Wedding and social event photography Forum: How do I overcome the high noon sun?

Wedding and social event photography Forum: How do I overcome the high noon sun?

One of the best suggestions I got from Marc Williams on PN was to meter the scene by itself, then meter the subjects by themselves. If the subjects are 2 stops darker than the background (ie - they need 2 more stops), then use flash at+2. Etc.

The rest of this thread is still very useful because it's about technique and equipment. But this one fundamental idea is a bit part of it.
